The Looming Week [The Trenchant Edges]

And I continue to rage against that friend who told me the Invisible Landscape 1975 had interesting differences from '1994.

It’s the Trenchant Edges newsletter again, deep dives/fringe culture. You know the drill.

Yesterday’s delayed email turned out to be more of a cheat day. Granted, I didn’t get out of bed until 6pm so I’m not super upset about it.

So, I’ve gotten through a couple of chapters of IH 1975 side by side w/ the mass paperback edition. So far the only difference is the way Terence quotes authors like Mircea Eliade and Andreas Lommel. And that only difference is where he puts the page number of the quote.

Not exactly thrilling, right?

I can handle doing a couple of chapters a day so I think that’s how I’m going to set it for now. Maybe something will yet come out of it.

I don’t regret buying this dumb thing but it’s tempting to be mad about it.

Alright, so what’s on deck for this week:

  • Monday: Checking in on Other Topics

  • Tuesday: McLuhan’s Global Village

  • Wednesday: What I hope to be an interesting update on the IH 1975

  • Thursday: McLuhan’s Extention’s of Man

  • Friday: McLuhan’s Tetrad

It’s become pretty clear to me that if I’m going to develop any kind of broad view of McLuhan or have any kind of big essay on him I’m going to need to actually figure out an angle because otherwise I’m just gonna get sidetracked another dozen ways.

Maybe that’s OK for now but it probably needs more clarification over time.

Meanwhile, a podcast I’ve been binging I don’t Speak German about far-right media has reminded me of my latent desire to read through all of the hacker quarterly magazine 2600 and a little bit of searching has taught me that it’ll only cost me $400 to own a complete set! Better focus more than that though, lol.

Alright, I’m going to finish up tonight and get an early start tomorrow. See you then.
