I have generally found that the solution to the trust vs. mistrust crisis is very copious freedom of association, exclusivity. During my rotten childhood I was super paranoid and distrustful of the people around me because they were untrustworthy and dangerous and I couldn't escape them. I am a much mellower adult because if I find someone to be untrustworthy I am much more empowered to not associate with them. It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation between inclusivity and distrust.
